Book your sailing holidays on crystal clear waters.
For sailing in Greece from Lavrion, you can use all known yacht brands. The marina’s of Lavrion and Athens are only 10 miles apart. More information about the region you can find at Athens.
Lavrion Marina being less than 25 minutes drive from the airport and only 2.5 hours sailing from Kea Island in the Cyclades, attracts more and more sailors with destination Cyclades.
Upon arriving in Athens, to the Athens international airport “EL. VENIZELOS” in Sparta area you are just 28 km from Lavrion charter base / port. There are two ways to get to Lavrion. One is by taking the train “Proastiakos” (runs every xx.11 and xx.26) or the Metro (runs every xx.03 and xx.33) from the airport and get off at the first stop called “Koropi” (5 minutes). From there, you can get the intercity bus (KTEL) which runs every 30 minutes to Lavrion and takes about 40 minutes to get to the port.
The other way and certainly the best means of reach is to seize a taxi from the airport (plenty of taxis waiting just outside) and be in Lavrion in only 15-20 minutes(depending on the traffic).
If you don’t want to wait at the taxi stand of the airport we can arrange a transfer for you.
Parking area (unguarded, quite safe) is also located in the marina. The best option is to park the car into the port-police courtyard.
There are a few supermarkets in Lavrion town. One of them takes people from the yacht to the store and delivers all provisions to the quay. The store has an extended variety of food and beverages and reasonable prices too. You can also send us a provisioning list 2 weeks before you arrive and have everything brought directly to your boat. Just ask us for the list, we will send it to you so you can fill in.
Although the Southeastern side of Attica/Athens area is full of antiquities, there are not many “organized” sights for tourists in Lavrion. Just 5 kilometres South of Lavrion you will locate the ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon right at the edge of Cape Sounion – Do not miss is the view. For those interested there is a number of abandoned factories and mines all around the place from the first age of the industrial era…
Many quality taverns, restaurants, cafés and bars are located within walking distance of the marina. Take the road outside the yachts keeping the seaside to your left hand and after a 100m distance, you will spot the tables at the pavement opposite the marble monument belonging to the tavern (fresh fish is guaranteed – not very cheap though).
Most of the time, the prevailing wind is N – NW, 3 to 4 Beaufort.
TIP – Lavrion is closer to the Cyclades islands, BUT in case there are strong winds in the Aegean, most charter boats are forced to stay in port. So when you select Lavrion as the departure point you should be prepared for such a possibility, otherwise charter a yacht out of Alimos Marina where waters are calmer no matter the weather conditions in the Aegean you will be able to sail to the Saronic Gulf (Aegina, Poros islands).
