The Saronic Gulf under Athens is a beautiful place in Greece, formed between the peninsulas of Attica and Argolis and is part of the Aegean Sea. The Saronic islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses and the Peloponnese coast offer well-protected waters. Sat. Arrival in Athens, Greece
Today you arrive in Greece, head towards the harbor to get on the boat and get everything ready to set sail tomorrow. All charters are from Saturday to Saturday. The journey takes about 3.5 hours and from the airport it is about 40 minutes by taxi transfer to the port of Athens. This travel time also applies to the other ports in the Athens area. Lavrion is a port located southeast of the airport. This is a perfect departure point to visit the Cyclades. Once you've arrived in the port of Athens, you're met with a smile and the check-in takes place. Then make the yacht your own and put all the luggage in place. Then put your feet up and pour a nice glass of wine, you're there!
Day 1. Athens – Aegina (Aegina) (20 Nautical miles, ca. 4 hours sailing)
From Athens you leave after breakfast at 09:30 with the course Aegina. Aegina is one of the most popular tourist destinations, as the island is the closest to Athens. This makes sailing to Aegina an absolute must.
Day 2. Aegina – Poros (Poros) (16Nm, 3h)
Near Aegina is the small island of Moni Eginas. On the north side of this island is a spectacular bay with good anchorage. The water is so blue, it almost hurts your eyes. After some time you can continue your course towards Poros and make an extra leg, because a nice wind force 4 is just coming up. Moor in Russian Bay.
Day 3. Poros – Hydra (12Nm, 3h)
Poros is only 1 nm away and there is a lot of space on the quay. Poros is a very nice place and a real 'go-to' for sailing from Athens. The town has everything from beautiful Greek architecture and cultural visitors to good restaurants and cozy bars and cafes. The weather is always surprising because of the islands and differences in height, pay attention to this. One absolute must for sailing from Athens is the place Hydra. In the harbor you can moor your yacht directly at one of the terraces. Hydra lives from tourism and has a quirky and special character. After dinner, you check your options and can decide to leave early the next morning to set course for Kythnos.
Day 4. Hydra – Kythnos (50Nm, 4h)
No sooner said than done, in the early dark you leave with destination Kythnos on the plotter, about 50Nm. This crossing is long, but really fantastic, a constant wind of 15 knots at 30 degrees ahead makes it a pleasant crossing. Such an experience, a crossing to a completely different sailing area, the Cyclades! The Cyclades Islands are less vegetated than the islands in the Saronic Gulf. This makes the contrast of the typical Greek houses a beautiful sight. The most beautiful anchorage of this island is Fikiada at Kolona Beach where you can experience the heat sources with a phenomenal beach, you should go here when visiting Kythnos!
Day 5. Kythnos – Kea (35Nm, 6h)
North of Kythnos is Kea, here you can anchor in a bay and enjoy snorkeling and relaxation. Then you set course for the mainland of Greece. After a beautiful sunset where you prepare the self-caught fish and open a nice bottle of bubbles, we arrive at Sounion. Here you can anchor beautifully with a view of the Temple of Poseidon.
Day 6. Kea – Athens (26Nm, 4h)
Slowly you sail with the shore to starboard back towards Athens. Halfway through, you can drop anchor again for one last pleasant swim. The fridges have to be empty, so set an improvised lunch on the table. Around 19:00 you will arrive at the port of Athens, you made it!
